Sophomores Attend St. Albert Initiative Conference

In early March, sophomores Karis Stoxen, Joe Zlatic, Mark Zlatic, and Maggie McCormick explored the relationship between faith and science at the St. Albert Initiative conference at Bellarmine University. Sessions addressed topics including the Big Bang Theory, AI, Galileo, the Vatican’s Observatory, and evolution.

The opportunity to engage with Catholic scientists from many fields provided a unique opportunity not only to learn more about careers in science, but also to learn how science and religion go hand in hand to help us understand the universe and our role in it. Science answers the how. Religion answers the why.

Maggie McCormick reflected, “The speakers were so educational and friendly . . . The poster session, too, was helpful and interesting, and I was able to ask some questions that had been nagging me. . . It was inspiring to see so many high schoolers like me pursuing an understanding of faith and science and how they correspond, an idea that is often misunderstood in our world.”
