Dr. Terry Frazier, a 1993 graduate of Roger Bacon High School, has built a remarkable career as both a Higher Education Administrator at Michigan State University and an entrepreneur, co-owning Sweet Encounter Bakery Café with his wife, Nikki. His work in higher education focuses on student affairs, college student development, and strategic DEI planning. Outside the academic world, his bakery café represents a passion project that merges his love for family and community.
In addition to his professional achievements, Dr. Frazier serves on the Board of Trustees for Lansing Community College, Waldorf University, and Cole Academy School District. He holds a Ph.D. in Education Leadership and Policy Studies from Iowa State University, as well as a B.S. in Elementary Education and a Master's in Higher Education from Ohio University. His passion for education and leadership stems from a deep-rooted desire to make a difference both in and out of the classroom.
Reflecting on his time at Roger Bacon, Dr. Frazier credits the diversity and relationships he formed as key influences in his personal and professional development. "Roger Bacon helped me develop a heart for people," he shares, noting that the school's environment allowed him to engage deeply with others and find common ground. These foundational experiences helped shape his leadership skills and inspired him to give back through both his career and family business.
During his time at Roger Bacon, Dr. Frazier was actively involved in a variety of extracurricular activities. From volunteering with Habitat for Humanity to reading to elementary students, these experiences shaped his commitment to service. He fondly recalls memorable moments, such as hanging out in the café with friends, cheering on the state champion soccer team, and being Student Body President. "Every day at Roger Bacon had an impact on my life—even the tough ones," he says, highlighting the strong sense of community and support he felt.
Dr. Frazier offers valuable advice to current and recent graduates: "Do what you love, find your passion, and live your life to the fullest. Take all the 'L's'—learning opportunities—and grow. Don't let negativity stop you; instead, see 'no' as 'new opportunities' to thrive."
After Roger Bacon, Dr. Frazier continued his leadership journey at Ohio University, where he joined Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and served as Student Government Association President. His career has taken him to six different universities, and he has delivered hundreds of keynote addresses across the country. When not working or traveling, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Nikki, and their two daughters, Melia (13), Madison (10) and his sister-in-grace, Shona.
Dr. Frazier’s journey exemplifies the Franciscan values instilled at Roger Bacon, showing how faith, leadership, and a heart for service can lead to a fulfilling and impactful life.
