The class of 2022 Assisi Scholars spent their Easter Break making a once-in-a-lifetime pilgrimage to Rome and Assisi, the culmination of their four years of hard work in the Assisi Scholar Program.
Among the highlights of the trip were visiting San Damiano, recreating the walk of St. Clare through the streets of Assisi, visiting the tomb of St. Francis. The scholars also were able to visit the Chiesetta of Proziuncola, the "little church," perhaps the most sacred place for Franciscans. This chapel, which sits inside of the Papal Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels, was given to St. Francis by Benedictine Monks and dates back to the 8th century.
The students finished the pilgrimage in Rome where they were able to take in landmarks such as the Collosseum, the Monument of Victor Emmanuel the II, and the Francesco D'Assisi statue.
There was also plenty of stops for gelato! It is a trip these seniors won't ever forget.
