Abbie Schneider

From the art room to the volleyball court, it is easy to see the talents of Abbie Schneider ‘21 all over Roger Bacon! Abbie loves expressing herself through both athletics and art. As a member of the varsity volleyball, cross country, bowling, and track teams, Abbie keeps herself busy with sports all year long. “Getting involved in different clubs, sports, and activities was really important to me when choosing a high school,” Abbie explained. “Roger Bacon was a place where I felt like I had the opportunity to be part of as many different activities as I wanted, and where I could be a leader.” In addition to sports, Abbie is president of the Art Club and a member of National Art Honor Society.

Abbie stood out to art teacher Kelly Reinbach right away -- not just because of her talent, but most of all because of her attitude and work ethic. Mrs. Reinbach remembers selecting Abbie’s eighth-grade art portfolio for a scholarship, and she has continued to be impressed with Abbie’s work ever since. “As I have taught Abbie throughout these past several years at Roger Bacon, she has shown tremendous growth, talent, and ambition. Her natural talent and her thirst for always wanting to do more, to do better, is what makes her an amazing artist and a wonderful student,” Mrs. Reinbach said. “She is tenacious in her want to do good. Whether that be on the volleyball court, in her academic endeavors, in service or in my art room, she is the type of young woman who wants to excel and does just that. I am beyond proud of what she has accomplished and how she’s changed as an artist. It has been a pleasure to help shape and guide her artistic expression and I always look forward to what she will create next.” The respect and admiration goes both ways -- when asked which teacher has had a big impact on her at RB, Abbie chose Mrs. Reinbach, saying, “Mrs. Reinbach is not only a great teacher, but a great person. She pushes her students every day to exceed their artistic boundaries because she sees the potential in them when they don’t see it themselves.”

For Abbie, art is a way to share joy with others. Abbie explained, “Last year I made a portrait of my grandpa. When I gave the drawing to him, I was so amazed by how happy and proud he was. He shows the picture to everyone and it brings him so much joy.” She also loves the way she can use art to challenge herself and explore complex emotions. “Right now I’m working on a piece about isolation,” she said. “It’s still in the early stages -- it might be a drawing or an oil pastel. Sometimes I canter a piece of art around a certain idea or emotion and seeing where it goes.”

Looking to the future, Abbie hopes to incorporate art in her career after Roger Bacon. She plans to go to college for a degree in graphic design or industrial design. “Being a graphic designer or industrial designer will allow me to apply my art skills to a career I think I’ll enjoy,” Abbie said. “I’ve always wanted to make a positive difference in the world, and art is the best way I have found to do that.”
